Sliding door curtain stack space and door clearance
Curtains on a sliding door must stack clear of the door opening, or the door will catch on the panels. Stack space is the wall space on one side, or on both sides, where the panels sit when the door is open. In this test build, stack space is exactly what you enter in the sliding door planner. It is not a recommended door clearance.
This is a support guide for the sliding door planner, not a traffic claim. It also covers how to hang curtains on a sliding door in plain terms: measure the door and the wall run, choose stack spaces, hang the rod or traverse so the door can still slide, then check the handle, track, and floor on site.
Test draft note: stack space rules, door clearance numbers, and traverse options have not yet been checked against manufacturer documents. Those numbers and rules are still to verify before any live publication, so this test page gives no door clearance number and no recommended stack space as fact.
Stack space choices
| Choice | What it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stack on one side | All panels sit on one side of the door when the door is open | That the side you choose has enough wall space for the panels you entered |
| Stack on both sides | Panels are split between the left and right sides when the door is open | That each side has enough wall space for the panels assigned to that side |
| No stack space entered | Panels have nowhere entered to sit clear of the door | Enter stack spaces in the planner before you buy or drill |
Door clearance checks, on site
- Door handle: does it clear the panels when the door slides?
- Door track: does the rod or traverse sit clear of the track?
- Floor: does the panel length you choose clear the floor and the track?
- Wall space: does the wall run cover the door width plus the stack spaces you entered?
Rod versus traverse, defined
A rod is a fixed bar the panels hang from and are drawn along by hand. A traverse is a track system that moves panels along the track, often with a cord or wand. Which one fits your door depends on the product maker instructions and the door type on site. This test page does not recommend one over the other, because traverse options are still to verify.
Next step
Enter your own stack spaces in the sliding door curtain planner, then run the door clearance checks above on site before you buy or drill.
